The Eastern Province Division of the South African Junior Golf Foundation is a non-profit organization, managed by a group of volunteers that are elected by the parents of our junior members.
Our members are all affiliated to the South African Junior Golf Foundation, which organizes national events and selects National Teams to represent South Africa at international tournaments. These tournaments include the World Junior Team Championships in Japan, The Africa Challenge and the World Junior Championships to mention a few. The SA Junior Golf Foundation is affiliated to the International Foundation for Junior Golf. Membership to the Eastern Province Division is therefore a stepping-stone to a much higher goal.
On the international scene, players like Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Tim Clark, Trevor Immelman, only to mention a few, have all come through the ranks of the Junior Golf Foundation. Their success on the golf course speaks for itself.
The main responsibility of the South African Junior Golf Foundation (EP Division) is to promote, organize and develop junior golf on all levels of the community within the Eastern Province. We strive to introduce and make golf accessible, to all juniors. We believe that there is still much uncovered talent in our province and it is of great concern to us that players form previously disadvantaged areas are still not really involved. To accommodate players from previously disadvantaged areas, we have provided free membership to the Eastern Province Division for players from these areas since 2005. Maintaining a healthy balance between developing the players we have and introducing the game to new players, is however a necessity. We organize and run about 30 sub-divisional and divisional junior events during the year that are open to all junior golfers 18 years and younger.
The Division is the only recognized body through which junior players can obtain higher recognition for their golfing abilities, and we award provincial colours to our Eastern Province Teams at u/12, u/14, u/16 and u/18 levels. These teams compete against teams form other provinces at provincial tournaments throughout the country.
